Drought conditions continue to improve across Eastern North Carolina. The weekly map update from the N.C. Drought Advisory Council shows parts of 11 counties are currently in moderate drought. That’s down from last week when nearly a dozen counties were listed in moderate drought. Despite scattered showers across the region, a total of 42 counties are abnormally dry. Counties in the northeastern part of the state continue to miss out on the heaviest rains. Elizabeth City has had 4.6 increase in rainfall since June 1st, or just 56% of its normal amount. In Wayne County, the Grantham groundwater well is within its monthly normal range for the first time since September 2021.
