There has been an increase in forest fires in Eastern North Carolina recently, most notably in Hyde County. The fire on Ferebee Road started at approximately 4:30 Sunday afternoon. According to public information officer Phillip Jackson, the fire currently covers 615 acres with 25% containment. The reduction in acreage is due to more accurate mapping. Crews are primarily focused on moving water to the remote location. As of now the cause of the fire is unknown but an investigation is ongoing.
