StoryCorps, the nation's largest oral history project, was in  Eastern North Carolina for 6 weeks recording interviews with area residents. Public Radio East is broadcasting interviews recorded by StoryCorps during its residency. To hear these stories tune to Public Radio East Wednesday through Friday at 6:50 am and 8:50 am. Below are a few stories already broadcast on PRE.

Venus Davis is an 84 year-old Beaufort native.  She discusses life in Beaufort during segregation.  She shares her story with her daughter Edna Davis Johnson.


The Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant is a Morehead City institution.   This is the seafood establishment’s 70th anniversary.  John Tunnel has been employed at The Sanitary Restaurant for over 60 years and shares his story with his friend Beth Garner.  You can hear their interview Friday at 6:50 am and 8:50 am during Morning Edition on Public Radio East.
