More than 100,000 people across Eastern North Carolina are without power due to Hurricane Florence.
As of 600 am Friday, Duke Energy is reporting more than 24,000 customers in Carteret County are without power. In Craven County, more than 11,000 people are affected by the outage. And in Onslow County, more than 16,000 customers are without power.
Spokesperson for Tideland EMC Heidi Smith says power outages are affecting 17,800 customers. She says crews will begin restoration work if conditions improve and winds are below 40 mph.
"We're probably looking at our northern counties, north of the Pamlico River. We may be able to get out today or Saturday morning."
Restoring Smith says restoring power in Craven and Pamlico counties will take longer because of flooding. Tideland EMC prestaged more than 80 additional workers from as far away as Alabama and Connecticut to help get customers back online.
Dominion Energy is reporting 2100 customers without power. All 40,000 Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative services are without power.
